1.  Each child grows and develops in a sequential manner at his/her own pace.  Each stage of development requires more complex behavior thought process by the child.  This new stage is built upon firm establishment of the previous stage.  A quality program means meeting the needs of the total child - social, emotional, physical, and intellectual.

2.  Children learn by interacting with, observing, and experiencing the world of objects and people.  They organize these experiences and observations into meaningful relationships.

3.  Each child is curious and actively initiates his/her own learning.  The most meaningful and lasting knowledge is constructed by the child.

4.  A child's self-esteem is based on pride in his/her culture, appreciation of his/her feelings, celebration of his/her uniqueness, and experiences with success.  Each child should respect and appreciate differences in others.

5.  The child's family is the primary influence on the child's growth and development.  The school and community enrich each child by offering additional, new, or different experiences.
